Pupils may opt or be required to take EAL as a language option (depending on ability) and will take IGCSE English as a Second Language in the Fifth Form.

IELTS preparation classes are also offered in the Sixth Form. Pupils who do not speak English as their first language are given every support to help them polish and perfect their use of the language.

Teaching

EAL is offered as an academic subject in its own right and as an extra, to help individual pupils access the curriculum, as well as other areas of school life.

All pupils are required to sit English GCSE in the Fifth Form. To prepare for this, EAL pupils are taught in separate EAL sets. They can also opt to take EAL as a language option instead of French, German, Spanish or Mandarin.

If further support is needed, individual lessons can be arranged.
