Joseph Cooper Concert 2024 @ St George’s Bristol

Congratulations to all pupils who performed at the historic St George’s concert hall on Tuesday 5 March with its world class acoustics, as part of our 2024 Joseph Cooper Concert.

In music from Elgar to Ella Fitzgerald, Sibelius to Frank Sinatra, the genuinely virtuosic to the movingly intimate, it was a chance to shine for our Orchestra, Concert band, Jazz workshop, Strings, Brass and Guitar ensembles, Cliftones and many soloists.

Special highlights were a complete performance by the Strings of Elgar’s ‘Introduction and Allegro’ (written as a test piece in 1905 for the newly-formed London Symphony Orchestra), a breath-taking rendition of the violin/viola Passacaglia in G minor duo by Handel-Halvorsen duo, and the variety of other styles from be-bop to Afro-Cuban, pupil-rearranged swing Gershwin to impassioned César Franck.

A gallery of photos is below, and you can catch up with a complete video of the concert below.
