Clifton Parents’ Lecture Series: Dr Dominque Thompson

As part of The Clifton Parents’ Lecture Series, Dr Dominque Thompson recently visited the College to talk with parents about how we can all support young people navigate the pressures and challenges that are part of growing up in the modern world.

Dr Thompson is a young people’s mental health expert, TEDx speaker, author and educator, with over 20 years of clinical experience caring for students. She was most recently Director of Service at the University of Bristol Students’ Health Service and was named Bristol Healthcare Professional of the Year in 2017.

Dr Thompson spoke on a range of themes, including the pressure young people feel nowadays to strive for perfectionism, the increasingly competitive nature of their day to day experiences and the importance of normalising failure.

Whilst it was not possible to film the lecture, a link to Dr Thompson’s TEDx Talk can be found here and her book, How to Grow a Grown Up can be purchased online or borrowed from the Percival Library.

Any parent who has a topic they would like to see covered in the Clifton Parents’ Lecture Series is invited to email Mr Swanwick at eswanwick@cliftoncollege.com.
