Clifton College Host Bristol Education Partnership’s Student Leadership Course

Last week Clifton College was proud to host the final session of Bristol Education Partnership’s five-month-long Student Leadership Course.

Nearly forty students from a total of nine local schools attended, and each was a credit to their school.

In the lead up to the workshop each school was assigned a Social Action Challenge – in which they came up with a team project with the aim to make a difference and make the world a better place.

Projects ranged from stocking local food banks, raising awareness of pet shelters, to promoting mental health awareness within schools, showing these young people were able to look within schools for challenges that needed tackling, but also into the wider community.

All schools put their leadership skills and team working into practice, delivering a brilliant set of presentations looking at the process, the outcomes, and reflecting on how each project could be taken further.

Kirsty Green-Mann, Head of Corporate Responsibility from Burges Salmon also attended, asking probing questions to each team before giving a speech on leadership in the workplace, reflecting on the qualities needed both as an individual, and in terms of a company being a ‘field leader’.

Finally Dr Tim Greene, Head of Clifton College, reflected on three key attributes he feels make a good leader: to have a strong sense of dedication; to invest in your team; and to surround yourself with the strongest team you can. He then congratulated all on their hard work, and handed out the graduation certificates.
