Autumn Concert 2023

Well done to the 11 ensembles involved in the Autumn Concert – a fantastic evening in the Chapel.

Concert Band, opened with a colourful and extensive medley of songs from ‘My Fair Lady’, the popular theme continuing with Sax Ensemble in ‘Subway’ by Karen Street, and Guitar and Brass Ensembles in arrangements of traditional songs.

Latin-inspired numbers came courtesy of Wind Quintet playing Beethoven’s Fifth in a Bossa Nova, and Clarinet Ensemble in two Piazzolla arrangements, with Jazz Workshop providing even smoother entertainment in a version of the Doris Day hit ‘When I fall in love’.

Sublime classical items came courtesy of the Flute Ensemble in Dubois, and Cello Ensemble is an exquisite version of Debussy’s Sarabande from Pour le piano. Strings shone in the moving Threnody composed by the  tragically short-lived Welsh mezzo-soprano and pianist Morfydd Owen.

The orchestra concluded the evening with the ‘Throne Room and Finale’ sequence from John Williams’ Star Wars complete with concert harp.
