For over one hundred and fifty years Clifton College has supported a vibrant Jewish community within its school. It is the only public school with its own synagogue, enabling Jewish students to maintain their Jewish identity while being a full participant in a public school.

Clifton College’s Jewish Life programme offers a Jewish home to pupils from a broad range of Jewish backgrounds. Jewish pupils of all ages can attend synagogue services, festival celebrations, cultural activities and learning opportunities, which are all overseen by our Jewish Chaplain. For more information about Jewish Life at Clifton College, see our Jewish Life page.

The Polack’s Award for Jewish Pupils is supported by the Polack’s House Educational Trust (PHET), an independent charitable organisation that was established after the closure of Polack’s House, Clifton College’s Jewish boarding house from 1878 to 2005.

Attending Clifton College has been a life-changing experience for me and I am grateful and will be for the rest of my life, for being given such an opportunity by the Polack’s House Educational Trust. Clifton College has given me a framework to express myself, academically and artistically. It offered limitless possibilities and opportunities that I could not even dream about prior to my arrival.Oxford Undergraduate

The Polack’s Award is awarded at 11+, 13+ and 16+ to young people who are passionate about their Jewish heritage and identity. This is not an academically assessed scholarship, but rather an opportunity to support those for whom the choice to attend Clifton College is driven by their Jewish identity. Pupils in receipt of the Polack’s Award are expected to play an active and committed role in the college’s Jewish Life programme.

The bursary application process is a means-tested process administered on our behalf by Bursary Assessment Associates, an independent company.
