Hockey at Clifton College Preparatory School has a place for everyone. We aim to provide aspiring young hockey players with every opportunity to develop their skills, reach their full potential and enjoy their participation in the sport.

Hockey is the major sport for girls in the Michaelmas Term and boys in the Lent Term. Pupils follow a progressive and balanced programme of training and competition throughout their time at the Preparatory School. This programme respects the children’s natural stages of physical, mental and emotional development. Its key aim is to increase the likelihood that players of all abilities will remain active throughout their lifetimes. On three afternoons a week, pupils have the opportunity to develop core hockey skills, while enhancing their tactical knowledge, game awareness and teamwork, alongside promoting positive attitudes which value respect, commitment and determination.

We have an extensive fixture list and aim to play at the highest level, fielding as many teams as possible, providing every girl and boy with the opportunity to compete and represent the School, regardless of their level of ability. We regularly compete in tournaments at local, regional and national levels, often with great success.

We are extremely fortunate to host excellent hockey facilities, and a water-based Astroturf pitch of international standard complements our twin Astroturf pitches.

Each hockey team has its own coach and mentor throughout the season. We have a number of very experienced and specialist hockey coaches, who are supported by enthusiastic, committed and experienced members of staff.

Our excellent staff-to-pupil ratio offers every pupil the perfect opportunity to flourish and fulfil their true potential.
