Shipshape and Bristol Fashion for the Next Generation
We are deeply grateful to the Estate of Jerry Jones OC (Wiseman’s, 1974) who donated a legacy gift to the College that has enabled us to add six new sailing boats to our fleet.
Mr Jones had a lifelong passion for sailing, which first developed during his time as a pupil at Clifton. In leaving this donation he wanted the College to continue providing opportunities that he enjoyed when he was here.
The six boats have each been named in Mr Jones’ honour to reflect an aspect of his life, they are:
- The Jerry Jones
- Wiseman’s
- Sea Spear
- Ibn Battuta
- Galatea
- Sabrina
James Rosser, Head of Sailing, said “We’re very grateful to Mr Jones for this generous gift. Sailing is a sport that can help young people develop life skills that benefit them on and off the water, as well as be enjoyed throughout one’s lifetime: as perfectly embodied by Mr Jones. This gift means we can ensure his legacy by providing more opportunities for our pupils to experience it.”
Laura Gammage, Director of Development, said “Legacy gifts like this are about honouring the past and giving future generations the same opportunities to thrive. This gift will carry forward the values, experiences and good fortune that shaped Mr Jones, and will continue to be a source of inspiration for our pupils.”
