Clifton College sports coach plays for the Barbarians

A huge congratulations to Shay Sainsbury, an OC and a member of our sports coaching team, who was recently selected to play for the Barbarians against Durham University RFC in a special celebration for their 150th anniversary.

Earning a place in the Barbarians squad is a prestigious moment in any rugby player’s career, and Shay marked the occasion in style by scoring a try. It rounds off an outstanding year for Shay, who was named National Two League West’s Player of the Season during Clifton RFC’s promotion-winning campaign to National One.

Reflecting on his season, Shay said “It was a real privilege to pull on the Barbarians jersey and be part of such a special occasion. Scoring a try made it even more memorable, I’m proud to have represented Clifton and am grateful to all those who’ve supported me along the way.”

Matt Salter, Director of Rugby said “I’m thrilled for Shay, we’ve always known he was an exceptional talent and his performances this season are a testament to that. We’re immensely privileged to have him as part of our team, coaching our pupils. His achievements on the pitch set a brilliant example for the next generation and show what’s possible with hard work and dedication.”
