Clifton 1st XI plays first T20 game of the season

On Thursday 22nd April the College 1st XI played their first T20 game of the season in a pre-season game against Cardiff Metropolitan University. The Cardiff Met side included eight players making their debut, as a result of missing the entire 2020 season, but it would still be an excellent test of the quality of the School XI.
Clifton won the toss and elected to bat and, after a steady start to the powerplay overs, Clifton soon started to bat with considerable authority. Shay Sainsbury and Joe Phillips both scored quick 40’s but the stand out performer was Ben Kellaway who amassed a sublime 91 before being caught on the boundary.
Clifton finished their 20 overs on 212-4. Chasing at nearly 11 an over is difficult and the Cardiff Met run rate soon started to increase and very quickly the challenge overhauling Clifton’s score became more and more unlikely. Tight bowling and excellent fielding saw Cardiff Met finishing their 20 overs at 128-8.
It was a great performance by the XI and hopefully similar T20 performances will follow as the National T20 competition starts against Taunton School on Thursday 29th April.
