A Successful Spanish Trip for our Prep Pupils

See below for a wonderful write up of the Prep School’s Spanish Student trip to Barcelona, written by Mali in Year 8:

Last week, thirty of the prep school Spanish students went on a one week trip to Spain in order to improve their language skills and have some fun.

When we arrived at the Spanish airport, after a two hour plane journey, we travelled by bus to go to our hotel we would be staying at, Mas Pagés, Barcelona. We settled into our dorms and then played a selection of evening games.

When we got up on Tuesday morning, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast of Spanish bread smeared with tomato juice, olive oil and a choice of cheese or ham. We then set off to do some Spanish vocabulary activities and afterwards we completed a treasure hunt around the campus. After our lunch we went on the high ropes which was personally one of my favourites. Some people got to go round twice if they wanted to and we enjoyed the ziplines and the different obstacles. When we finished, we had some free time where we got to play games and football on the field and they also had a basketball court that we could use as well. In the late afternoon, we made pizza out of flatbread, peppers and onions. When it was cooked, we sat down and ate dinner with some other delicious Spanish food as well.

On Wednesday morning, we played a selection of Spanish games using vocabulary and music to complete a worksheet. We then travelled by coach to the Dali Museum, one of the highlights of the trip. We witnessed all of Dali’s fascinating creations including, not only art on paper, but also art of sculptures and wax. Afterwards, we used our time in the city to do some souvenir shopping around the area. When we had finished, we went back to our hotel for yet more delicious Spanish food and an early night to bed, as we were all so tired.

On Thursday, we ventured into the ruins of an ancient town by the harbour. We discovered all of the areas that used to be houses and then walked into the museum where we could look at a few of the artefacts. Afterwards, we had some free time on the beach at l’Escala where we had a great time splashing in the ocean, drawing on sand, and just spending time with friends.

As it approached lunch time, we headed to the park where we had a picnic on the grass. It included a variety of sandwiches, biscuits, fruit and some thirst quenching juice. After lunch, it unfortunately started to rain and the glass bottom boat cruise had to be cancelled at the last minute. We headed for cover and waited for the rain to stop before we went back out to enjoy more shopping. Most of us were a bit cold and wet so we went into a nice cafe for snacks. We then went back to Mas Pagés for more free time and games. Later, after dinner, the hotel set up a disco for our last night in Spain. We had a variety of music with lots of colourful lights and a disco ball. It lasted about an hour then we all went to bed after a busy and enjoyable day.

Wake up call on Friday was slightly earlier than usual as we had to leave the hotel at 8:00am. Our tour guide showed us the exterior of Sagrada Família and the surrounding area, and then we set off to eat another enjoyable picnic in a beautiful park (Parc Güell) with an amazing view of the city. Afterwards we ventured out to the incredible walls of Barcelona before we headed back for a bus tour of the whole city. As we got off the coach, we were taken around the Cathedral of Barcelona which had 91 steps. After this visit, we managed to sneak in more shopping and snacks before dinner at a local Barcelona restaurant. We all had a three course meal of tomato pasta (as a starter), a burger with seasoned potatoes (as the main), and some chocolate and vanilla ice cream for pudding.

Sadly we had to end our trip as we travelled back to the airport to get on the plane before arriving back in Bristol at midnight.
