Victory for Clifton in Governor's Cup - 12 October 2014

The annual Clifton College Vs Marlborough College rugby fixture celebrated its 150th year on Sunday with Clifton emerging the victors in both the first XV and the Old Cliftonians matches.

The Governor's Cup, as the fixture became known in 1964, is the meeting of Clifton College and Marlborough College and is the oldest English inter-school contest in the game of rugby.

Rules may have changed significantly since the 20-a-side match of 1864, but the rivalry has not.

Clifton took the honours with a 17-0 score line, whilst the OCs managed an impressive 23-0. OC John Inverdale was on hand to present the Governor's Cup.
