On Sunday 19th March 2017 we held a Gala Night celebrating 50 Years of the Redgrave Theatre!
The SOLD OUT event involved Old Cliftonians, former staff, present pupils and students from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre school performing a variety of solo and ensemble pieces from productions over the years.
All those who participated and the many guests at the Redgrave celebration were treated to an evening which will live long in the memory and we are indebted to all who contributed in performances, staging, OCs, pupils and the school caterers.
“How do you hold a dinner in a theatre ?”.... I was asked by many prior to the event, fearing a TV dinner on their lap.
Well the vision was to seat diners on the stage and erect a performer's platform over the seating. It worked and provided a unique experience for all involved.
Starting in the Joseph Cooper Music school with a champagne reception and chance to see archivist Dr Knighton’s retrospective exhibition of drama across the years. The Bristol Old Vic Theatre school students kicked the evening off in a rousing way. Everyone then made their way over to the Redgrave and thus unfolded a marvellous three hours of eclectic entertainment and fine dining.
Our guest of honour, Jemma Redgrave, welcomed everyone and then performances from OCs across the years and former staff kept the entertainment rolling until the end. Performances include songs from the shows, Shakespeare monologues, Dance, Monty Python and ‘Yes Head Master’ sketches.
