Boarding at the Upper School is a busy and dynamic experience for pupils from all around the world, with endless opportunities to explore. Many pupils speak English as their second language and are reassured by having friends from other countries.
At Clifton College around 35% of pupils come from beyond the UK. Pupils represent over 50 countries globally which creates a wonderfully diverse community with no single country dominating the figures.

Celebrating traditions
There are many UK schools that are classed as international, but a great attraction of Clifton College is that international pupils join a quintessentially British Boarding School with traditional core values, whilst continuing to celebrate their own unique traditions.
English as an Additional Language
In the Upper School the EAL department supports pupils from a range of countries. Pupils are tested on entry into the school, or on transfer from the Preparatory School, and advised whether they should take EAL as an option. The majority of pupils for whom English is not their first language will be recommended to attend EAL lessons.
EAL lessons cover all aspects of English language, including grammar, writing skills, reading skills and intensive listening, as well as discussion, debate and presentation. These are all skills pupils need to perform well in other subjects across the curriculum.
