At Clifton College Upper School, we foster a culture grounded in respect, collaboration, and intellectual curiosity. Within this supportive and aspirational environment, pupils are empowered to gain confidence, develop their skills, and express their talents.
Day pupils can join boarders for breakfast at 7.30am, and have the option to stay for dinner at 6.00pm when needed.
For both day and boarding pupils, the school day begins at 8.10am with registration in Houses.
Each morning there is an assembly or service in the Chapel to bring everyone together to start the day.
There are a wide range of subjects on offer, with engaging lessons throughout the day to suit every interest.
Outside the classroom, our extensive co-curriculum provision aims to provide all pupils with the opportunity to pursue a variety of different interests and learn new skills.
In the Upper School, lunch is served in the Big School Kitchen (BSK), offering a variety of healthy food to prepare pupils for a busy afternoon.
Games or sports fixtures are on offer three times a week, with plenty of sports to choose from or to try something new.
Academic enrichment is a key part of the school week at Clifton College, with student societies ranging from the Scientific Society to the Modern Language Film Society, each pupil is regularly challenged to think well beyond the curriculum.
Most school days finish at either 4pm or 5pm depending on the timetable, however our day Houses are open to pupils until 7.15pm (4pm on Saturdays) to complete homework or spend time with friends.
Saturday School starts with Congers, a Clifton College tradition of singing and celebration in the Chapel before the morning of lessons begins.
After school and on the weekends, boarders are free to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Clifton, from shopping with friends in Clifton Village to walking up to the vast green space of Clifton Down.
Hear from one of our teachers and a pupil about all of the opportunities at Clifton College.
We encourage our pupils to embrace challenges, take risks, and develop resilience. Whether it’s performing on stage in the Redgrave Theatre, tackling a new sport, or stepping up as a team leader, our pupils learn that growth comes from stepping outside of their comfort zone.
Hear from our Head of College and a Year 9 pupil about the opportunities available for every pupil at Clifton College.
A typical day at Clifton College begins in Houses. Clifton College has a rich House tradition, where every pupil, day or boarding, is part of their own micro-community. Pupils can form lifelong friendships, engage in healthy competition, and experience a true sense of belonging. Our Houses provide:
Pastoral support
Housemasters and Housemistresses, along with our house Matrons and a strong pastoral team woven throughout the School leadership team ensure that every pupil feels supported and valued.
A home away from home
Whether a boarding pupil or a day pupil, each and every child is part of a House, meaning they always have a place to call home when at School.
Exciting competitions
From sports tournaments to House Song, our inter-house events build teamwork and school spirit.
