Our Upper School begins in Year 9 with a mix of pupils moving up from our Prep School and others joining from local, national and even international schools.
"My advice to the new Year 9 pupils would be to take advantage of every opportunity that presents itself. The best thing you can do is get involved - try out a new club, or even just speak up more in class. Say yes to things, even if they feel a bit outside your comfort zone, because in my experience that’s where the best and most rewarding experiences happen."

In Year 9 the Assistant Housemaster/mistress acts as the pupils’ academic tutor as well as providing excellent pastoral support.
In Year 9, we aim to provide a programme of continuity from previous study, that will give a broad foundation from which GCSE choices may be made, and, in a number of subjects, begin the actual GCSE course content.
All pupils in Year 10 and above belong to a mixed tutor group.
GCSE choices are made during the Lent Term of the Year 9, ahead of the GCSE years of Year 10 and 11.
We keep the curriculum under constant review in order to take into account changes in society and national developments in education.
The ‘co-curriculum’ describes the wide variety of activities that are very much part of the Clifton College experience.
All of these activities form a central part of the well-rounded education on offer to pupils. There are opportunities to develop leadership skills, to take on responsibility and to broaden interests.
Year 9 is a year of significant academic progress during which pupils learn to become more independent and develop attitudes to learning that will carry them through their time at Clifton College.
Part of this learning includes an annual trip to Tignes, France for an enrichment programme aimed at developing a broad set of skills to help during future GCSE studies, for the full Year 9 cohort.
"It might take a few weeks for your child to fully find their rhythm, but once they do, they’ll likely discover strengths and passions you’ve never seen before. If I could go back and tell myself anything on my first day, it would be: "You’re going to be okay. In fact, you’re going to do better than okay, you’re going to excel."
