Results and destinations

Most Clifton College pupils go on to attend the university of their choice, be that internationally or in the UK. Advice is also available for those pupils who want to go directly into work, undertake an apprenticeship or consider taking a gap year.

Equal importance on personal growth and independence

A well-rounded education

In 2026, 22% of A Level grades were A*, 47% A*-A, 74% A*-B, and 90% A*-C (or equivalent), awarded across 36 subjects. 58% of GCSE grades were 9-7, and 80% were 9-6 with 35 different subjects/qualifications offered.

The vast majority of Cliftonians choose to study at university, either in the UK or overseas, with a small number taking up degree apprenticeships or full-time employment. In 2025, of the nearly 150 places accepted at UK universities, more than two thirds were at Russell Group universities, with the five most popular universities being Exeter, Durham, Manchester, UCL and Cardiff. Five students won places at Oxbridge. The diversity of university subjects chosen by leavers continues to grow, with 94 different courses selected amongst the 2025 leavers.

Interest in applying to study abroad also continues to grow, with students gaining places at leading overseas universities, including UC Berkeley, NYU and Bocconi. About 30% of students take a gap year in a cohort of roughly 170 leavers.

Excellent results by themselves are not the only signifier of a well-rounded education. We place equal importance on personal growth and independence. At every step of their education, pupils are encouraged to question theories and conventional approaches, and to learn to think critically and independently. We want all pupils to embrace life after Clifton College as the best version of themselves that they can be.

Our community for life

Clifton College has long been known for instilling a longstanding sense of community among our pupils. For many, being a part of the College continues long after their school days have passed. Old Cliftonians (OCs) remain engaged with the school, contributing their time, talents, and expertise in ways that enrich the current generation of students and maintain the legacy of excellence for which the school is known.

Keep in touch

The Old Cliftonian Society plays a pivotal role in ensuring that connections forged during school continue to thrive. Through its regular events and reunions, OCs are invited to come back to the school and renew old friendships while building new ones.
