Clifton College has an Anglican foundation, from which the school values of Spirit, Integrity and Resilience are drawn. However the College welcomes children of all faiths and the College Chaplain offers support to enable every pupil to live out their faith. The College has a multi-faith prayer room and during specific religious festivals and observances the Chaplain works with students to ensure they have appropriate provision and support.

In conjunction with our wellbeing spaces in the Health Centre, the Chapel is the perfect place for a moment of quiet reflection. It is described by many as the heart of the college. It is open every day and all are welcome.
The heart of chaplaincy is to help every person to experience life in all its fullness. We recognise that we are physical, emotional, cognitive and spiritual beings and seek to help everyone flourish through pastoral care and creating opportunities for spiritual development.
Spirituality is best understood as the way in which we combine our thoughts and emotions to reflect, respond to, and seek to give meaning and purpose to the experiences that we encounter in life, with or without a faith dimension to it. The aim is that through spiritual exploration we are more equipped to face life's big questions.
The College Chaplain is a supporting person for anyone across the whole college, both staff and students. Trained as a Priest in the Church of England with additional training in wellbeing, bereavement care and active listening skills, the Chaplain is here to offer pastoral support to all.
Pastoral care involves listening and supporting in a non-judgemental way to all students and staff with anything they have on their minds, not just matters of belief or faith. For anyone interested in spirituality and faith or simply wanting a space to explore life’s questions, the Chaplain is here to listen.
Clifton College’s Jewish Life programme offers a Jewish home to pupils from a broad range of Jewish backgrounds.
Jewish pupils of all ages can attend synagogue services, festival celebrations, cultural activities, learning opportunities and social activities, which are all overseen by our Jewish Chaplain.
We have our own Synagogue, which is located in the heart of the historic college campus, allowing Jewish pupils to be part of every aspect of college life while belonging to our unique Jewish community. Every Jewish pupil is encouraged to honour their shared heritage while creating their own Jewish future.
Our Jewish Chaplain runs a Bar/Bat Mitzvah programme for pupils approaching twelve/thirteen or for older pupils that missed out for whatever reason. The programme includes group classes that explore the history and significance of Bar/Bat Mitzvah as well as individual tuition for those wishing to learn a parashah. We also welcome applications to our Polack’s Award for Jewish pupils.
We aim to develop open-minded young people with a real understanding of the world around them, fully prepared for their future in a rapidly changing modern world.
