Team sport is an important feature of School Life here at the Preparatory School. Cricket is the major sport for boys in the Summer Term.
We aim to provide young cricketers with every opportunity to develop their skills, reach their full potential, and enjoy their participation in the sport.
Boys follow a progressive balanced programme of training and competition throughout their time at the Preparatory School. This programme respects the boys’ natural stages of physical, mental and emotional development, and its key aim is to increase the likelihood that players of all abilities will remain active throughout their lifetimes. Three afternoons a week are set aside for the development of core cricket skills, tactical knowledge and games awareness, alongside promoting positive attitudes which value respect, commitment, determination and teamwork.
We have an extensive fixture list and aim to play at the highest level, fielding as many teams as possible and providing every boy with the opportunity to compete and represent the School regardless of their level of ability. We regularly compete in tournaments at local, regional and national levels, often with great success.
We are very fortunate to have an excellent cricket facility that boasts state-of-the art cricket nets, as well as local access to four junior wickets, and many more at our fantastic Beggar’s Bush facilities.
Each cricket team has its own coach and mentor throughout the season. The coaching team is led by James Averis, former Gloucestershire bowler with 350 first team appearances. A number of cricket specialists and enthusiastic, experienced members of staff support him.
With an excellent staff-to-pupil ratio, children are provided with the perfect opportunity to flourish and fulfil their true potential.
