The Preparatory School Library offers a variety of events during the school year, including activities to celebrate World Book Day, book fairs, and talks from visiting authors.
The Library provides a balance between information technologies, media and the printed word. The ground floor has recently been refurbished with new shelving, soft seating, display units and an LCD TV. The library catalogue is accessible on a computer, from which students are able to search across the College’s three libraries.
The library’s mezzanine floor houses an enclosed area with 13 student computers and a SMART board, which enables it to be used as a teaching room for information skills lessons, English, EFL and research lessons for smaller classes. There is also a small AV area where pupils can listen to audiobooks or view DVDs.
The collection includes an extensive range of children’s fiction and non-fiction to support the curriculum, and also contains an expanding choice of DVDs, CDs, magazines and online resources.
Each English class has an allotted Library lesson at least once every fortnight In addition, students may visit the Library during break times, lunch times and after school.
Recently, the Preparatory School has been host to authors, illustrators and storytellers, including Joanne Harris, William Nicholson, Robert Muchamore, Alan Gibbons, Rebecca Lisle, Michelle Paver, and Chris d’Lacey. We also participate in the Bath Children’s Literature Festival in September.
