Pupils move up to the Prep School from the Pre‑Prep in Year 3, marking an exciting new chapter of their Clifton College journey, where they are supported every step of the way. This transition is carefully nurtured to ensure children feel confident, secure and ready for the new opportunities ahead.

Year 3 offers a wonderful blend of familiarity and fresh challenge: pupils remain part of a warm, caring community while beginning to experience greater independence and responsibility in their learning.
With access to a broader curriculum, experiences, facilities and a wider range of activities, children are encouraged to explore new interests, build on their strengths and discover what inspires them.
It is a joyful and energising stage of school life, where curiosity grows, friendships deepen and pupils take their first steps into the full Prep School experience.

In the Prep School pupils are introduced to the unique Clifton College House system. This provides them with a familiar space to relax with friends, complete homework, and a place to grab a healthy snack at break time. Each House is supported by a dedicated House team to ensure every child feels welcome and at 'home'. Regular House events and competitions help pupils to create bonds that last throughout their school years and beyond.

We put out several teams for our weekly sports fixtures, ensuring that all pupils get to participate as part of a team, whatever their skill level.
Parents are invited to support our school teams at fixtures at our sports ground and at away fixtures. These are wonderful community events for parents, and grandparents, whilst offering support and encouragement to our pupils.

Each year our Year 3 cohort take to the stage in our very own theatre, The Redgrave Theatre. The pupils throw themselves into every moment, showcasing brilliant teamwork, energy and enthusiasm. It's a wonderful opportunity for them to build confidence, shine on stage and create memories they’ll carry with them for years to come.

Our curriculum is designed to provide a well-rounded education.
We place an emphasis on literacy and numeracy to build strong foundational skills.
Children are encouraged to explore their interests and discover new talents through a range of timetabled lessons including music, art, physical education, and languages.
Regular sessions at our dedicated Forest School encourage exploration and environmental awareness.
As children move up through the school, we ensure a smooth progression to the next stage of their education.
Familiarisation activities
In addition to regular interactions with children in the Prep in Years 1-2, towards the end of Year 2, visits to the Prep School and interactions with future teachers ease the transition.
Parental involvement
We maintain open communication, offering guidance and support to families throughout this period.
Buddy system
Pupils joining Year 3 will have an older buddy in their House who will be a guide and support as they join the Prep School.
We host a range of events throughout the year to help families experience life at Clifton College Pre-Prep. We can’t wait to welcome you.
