Our Assistant Head Academic, Dr Wells, offers additional academic guidance to all academic scholars, encouraging pupils to fulfil their full potential.

Scholars will also have the opportunity to participate in the annually published Scholars' Journal, develop public speaking/teamwork skills as part of the Model United Nations group, have academic writing opportunities, and take part in academic competitions.

Receiving guidance from older academic scholars in Year 13 — and later becoming a mentor to younger pupils — creates a powerful cycle of support and leadership. Year 13 scholars share practical advice on study habits, subject areas and how to balance academic ambition with wider school life, giving younger pupils relatable role models. As scholars grow into the mentor role themselves, they develop confidence, communication skills and a strong sense of responsibility. This two‑way system builds academic self‑belief and fosters a connected, supportive scholarly community.

Attending talks and trips gives scholars the chance to broaden their horizons and deepen their intellectual curiosity beyond the classroom. Through lectures, workshops and author Q&As, pupils are exposed to new ideas, expert perspectives and real‑world applications of their studies. These experiences spark discussion, inspire independent thinking and help scholars see how academic subjects connect to wider society. The scholars’ trip to Oxford University is a particular highlight, offering a glimpse into university life, access to world‑class academic environments and the chance to learn from leading researchers. Together, these opportunities enrich the scholars’ programme and encourage pupils to think ambitiously about their future pathways.

The annual Kendrew Society Dinner is a special celebration of our Sixth Form Scholars, recognising the achievements of pupils across Academic, Drama, Music, Art and DT. The evening is a highlight of the year, with inspiring pupil speeches that showcase the talent, ambition and character of our scholar community.

Clifton College has a unique House system where every pupil belongs to a House, creating a strong sense of community and lifelong bonds across year groups. Each House has a dedicated Housemaster or Housemistress, along with a team of tutors and matrons, providing a robust support network for every pupil. The community spirit is extended through regular inter-house activities and competitions promoting teamwork and leadership.
