The Ryan Bresnahan Memorial Match once again brought the rugby community together for a memorable evening of competitive sport, reflection and celebration at Clifton Rugby Club.
This year's fixture welcomed Taunton School for the first time, marking their inaugural appearance in the annual event held in memory of former Clifton College pupil Ryan Bresnahan. Players from both schools demonstrated outstanding commitment and sportsmanship across an exciting programme of matches.
The evening featured fixtures involving the Prep School, U14, U15, U16 and 1st XV teams, with pupils representing their schools with great pride. In the headline fixture, Clifton's 1st XV secured an impressive 42-17 victory, capping off a successful night of rugby. Alongside the other matches involving the schools' A teams, spectators enjoyed a series of highly competitive contests played in excellent spirit.
Ahead of the event, Michelle Bresnahan, Ryan's mother and founder of the meningitis charity A Life for a Cure, led assemblies for pupils and staff at both Clifton and Taunton. Sharing Ryan's story, she helped raise awareness of meningitis while also encouraging support for the charity's important work in funding research and education.
The evening also provided an opportunity to celebrate a significant achievement for the College. Clifton was honoured to receive the 'Spirit of the Game' Award from NextGen Live, the global platform for school and youth rugby coverage, rankings and live streaming. The award recognised the remarkable response of pupils following the devastating loss of Director of Rugby Matt Salter earlier this year, acknowledging the compassion, resilience and support shown throughout the school community during an exceptionally difficult period.
The event served as a fitting tribute to Ryan's memory and highlighted the values that sit at the heart of school rugby: teamwork, respect and community. With excellent support lining the sidelines and a fantastic atmosphere throughout the evening, the Ryan Bresnahan Memorial Match once again proved to be a special occasion.
A huge thank you and congratulations to everyone who took part, as well as the many supporters, volunteers and families who helped create another unforgettable evening.
