Year 13 Pupil Awarded Bulkeley-Evans HMC Scholarship for Gap Year Volunteering

Congratulations to our Year 13 pupil who has been awarded a Bulkeley-Evans HMC Scholarship worth £600, supporting her upcoming gap year volunteering placement in Kenya. The award recognises her commitment to service and will help fund a term of community-focused work in Nairobi.

During the Michaelmas Term she will be a gap student at Peponi International School, where she will take part in a wide range of local outreach projects. Her main placement will be at Ndiini Primary School, a Kenyan school serving a community with limited resources. There, she will work alongside teachers to support pupils in English Language and Sport, helping to enrich their learning experience.

She will also contribute to two further community initiatives: the Ruiru Rehabilitation Centre, which provides care for orphaned children, and the Kenya Centre for Community Learning, which supports young people with learning difficulties and additional educational needs. In the afternoons, she will return to Peponi to assist older pupils through sport and enrichment activities.

She is delighted to have received the scholarship, which will be a fantastic contribution towards her costs, and is eager to immerse herself in Kenyan culture while making a meaningful impact on the communities she supports.

Following her term at Peponi, she will spend six weeks volunteering on a riding safari in Kenya and hopes to travel further before beginning university in 2027. She plans to study Sport Science, with Newcastle University as her first choice.
