Joseph Cooper Concert 2026

An impressive 140 performers gathered at St George's Bristol on 10th March to give the 2026 Joseph Cooper Concert before a packed audience.

The first half of the programme began with the Concert Orchestra, who dedicated their first item - the heroic Adagio from Spartacus by Khachaturian - to the memory of Mr Matt Salter, Director of Rugby. The programme continued with Suppé, a new arrangement of Billie Eilish's James Bond song (vocal soloist: Hannah, WT), the Guitar Ensemble playing music from The Godfather including a mandolin solo, and closed with the Big Band in excellent form including 'Take the A Train' and 'Spies R Us' and a cover of Norah Jones' 'Don't Know Why'.

The second half of the programme was given over to a complete performance of Mozart's Requiem performed by the joint choirs of the Upper School, Prep School adults, OCs, an orchestra half-pupil / half-professional, and a quartet of soloists including Tom Crook-Taylor (OC, and current scholar at the Royal College of Music). The combined forces on stage and sublime music made for a truly moving experience for all.

The evening showcased an array of incredible musical talent, a big congratulations to all performers and teachers who brought the event to life, and a special thank you to our Director of Music Mr James Drinkwater for leading the evening along with both conducting and performing!
