Clifton College Golf Celebrates a Historic Season of National Success

Wednesday 3 June 2026

Clifton College Golf has enjoyed a landmark year, qualifying for two National Golf Finals for the first time in the school’s history - both held during the opening week of the Summer Term. This achievement marks a major milestone for the programme and reflects the growing strength of golf across the College.

The Summer Term started with the National Schools Foursomes Finals at Frilford Heath Golf Club, where the team secured an impressive fifth‑place finish, including a standout victory over Millfield. A closely fought match against Bedford followed, with Bedford progressing only after a nail‑biting conclusion.

The team then travelled to Brocket Hall for the Independent Schools Golf Association Finals, where they delivered one of the most memorable performances in Clifton golf history. After a challenging first round, they surged from 11th to 5th place on Day 2, demonstrating exceptional skill and resilience. One player finished as the leading girl golfer over 36 holes and earned an invitation to the prestigious Justin Rose Pro Series, a rare honour reserved for top amateur talent. The same team later claimed victory in the Avon Schools Team Competition, another first for Clifton.

Individual success shone just as brightly. One pupil became the youngest‑ever winner of the Avon Schools U18 Championship at just 14, while another secured second place at the South West Schools Championship and now progresses to the All England Finals in July.

The programme continues to thrive thanks to its strong partnership with Long Ashton Golf Club, and expert coaching from Andy Rudge, that supports an ever‑growing number of pupils.

Congratulations to all players on a remarkable, record‑setting season!
