Clifton College Crowned England Hockey Girls U18 Schools Champions

Clifton College has been crowned England Hockey Girls U18 Schools Champions, officially making them the best U18 girls’ hockey team in the country!

The Clifton College team won every one of their eight league games, conceding only four goals in the whole tournament, and scoring 47 - an incredible feat. They went on to beat Brighton 2-1 in the quarter-final, Haileybury 5-3 in the semi-final and Epsom 2-1 in the final, with a great display of sportsmanship and professionalism shown by all teams throughout.Led by Head of Hockey Olly Keenan, the squad delivered an outstanding performance throughout the competition, with months of commitment from the players and coaching team, culminating in a superb final that showcased their exceptional skill, teamwork and determination.What makes this achievement even more special is that many of the players began their hockey journey in Clifton’s Pre‑Prep and Prep Schools. The Preparatory School plays a pivotal role in developing young talent, offering an environment that mirrors the Upper School’s philosophy of nurturing each individual while fostering a genuine love for the sport. With expert coaching, inspiring female role models and strong links between the Prep and Upper School hockey programmes, pupils are supported from their very first steps on the pitch.Led by Mrs Catchpole, a former England player, the Prep School has produced an impressive number of Junior International athletes in recent years, including Caitlin W (England U16), Evie G (England U21 & GB EDP), Emilia P (England U21), Orla O‑H (Wales U18) and Clemmie Houlden (England U21 & Princeton University). This strong foundation has helped shape the pathway that feeds directly into the current national‑champion squad.The U18 team’s triumph is a testament not only to their hard work and resilience, but also to the long‑term vision and commitment of the entire Clifton College hockey community - from Pre‑Prep to Sixth Form. It is a remarkable achievement and a proud moment for the school.
