Local Rugby Clubs Join Clifton College for Rugby Development Day

Clifton College was delighted to welcome 200 Year 6 pupils from seven local rugby clubs to Beggars Bush Sports Ground and the Chellaram Sports Complex for a full day of pre‑season coaching and development. Players from Bath, Chippenham, Clifton, Dings, North Bristol, Chew Valley and Keynsham each brought 25-30 enthusiastic young players to take part.

Throughout the day, Clifton College rugby coaches led high‑energy training sessions designed to prepare boys and girls for the season ahead. Pupils trained in mixed groups, giving them the chance to meet new teammates, build confidence and enjoy rugby alongside peers from across the region. Coaches from the Bristol Bears added an extra challenge, running fitness tests to assess speed, agility and power, giving players a taste of professional‑level conditioning.

Club coaches were also supported by Russell Earnshaw, who delivered a coach education session to help strengthen grassroots rugby development across the area.

The day concluded with pupils returning to their club teams for short fixtures against appropriate opposition, putting new skills into practice and ending the event with plenty of teamwork, energy and smiles!

Clifton College was proud to host such a positive community rugby day and looks forward to working with local clubs again in the future.
