Celebrating Two Remarkable Leaders as They Embark on Their Next Chapter

Clifton College is marking an important moment in its history as we bid a heartfelt farewell to two exceptional leaders whose impact will be felt for many years to come.

Honouring Jim Walton

After eight and a half years of dedicated leadership, we extend our deepest thanks to Jim Walton, Headmaster of the Clifton College Preparatory School.

Jim has been the steady heart of the Prep School, guiding pupils, parents and staff with warmth, encouragement and an unwavering belief in the potential of every child. His motto - “Aim high, be kind, be brave” - has shaped the culture of the Prep School and stands as a lasting reminder of the values he modelled every single day.

Jim’s legacy is woven into the young lives he has nurtured, the confidence he has inspired, and the community he has strengthened. We thank him sincerely for everything he has brought to Clifton College and wish him the very best as he begins his next chapter.

Celebrating Dr Tim Greene

We also celebrate Dr Tim Greene, the 15th Head Master of Clifton College, who retires after ten exceptional years of leadership.

Tim’s Clifton journey began in 2006 as Head of Chemistry, followed by roles as Head of Science and Deputy Head Academic before becoming Head Master in 2016. His headship has been defined by optimism, humour and an unwavering commitment to pupil wellbeing.

A passionate advocate for sport and the performing arts, Tim has championed pupil participation across the College. He played a key role in establishing the Bristol Education Partnership and strengthened ties with the Old Cliftonian Society, ensuring our alumni remain closely connected to the College community.

Tim guided the College through a complex decade with resilience and warmth, attending countless events to ensure pupils felt supported, valued and celebrated. His leadership has left an enduring mark on Clifton College.

We thank Tim for his dedication, motivation and kindness, and wish him a very happy and well‑deserved retirement.

As Jim Walton and Dr Tim Greene step into their next chapters, they leave behind strong, confident legacies that will continue to shape Clifton College for years to come. Their leadership, values and vision have created an environment where pupils and staff can thrive - and where future leaders can build with assurance and ambition.

Their work provides James Averis and Chris Stevens with the strongest possible foundation as they begin their own headships, carrying forward the spirit of kindness, courage and community that has defined Clifton College under Jim and Tim’s guidance.
