Rugby Sevens Festivals Success
A brilliant few days of Rugby Sevens festivals were enjoyed by participants and spectators alike this weekend.
A huge congratulations goes to our U16 boys who went unbeaten to win the West of England Rugby Sevens, hosted at Taunton School. The boys played exceptionally well, beating Bristol Grammar School 24-15 in the crunch group decider.
They then went on to face Cheltenham College in the final where they raced into a 14-10 halftime lead. This lead was threatened as Cheltenham fought back in the second half, bringing the score to 14-10. Demonstrating a huge amount of control, grit and resilience in the final minutes Clifton held on to win the title.
Back at Clifton our U18 girls played in, and hosted, our very first Girls Sevens Rugby Festival on The Close. The girls did fantastically well against some very experienced opposition including Exeter College and Llandovery. A great day was had by all.
The U18 boys travelled to a very cold Christ’s Brecon where they played in their 28th Sevens tournament. The boys faced a very strong field that included Hartpury College. They fought hard and won their group, beating Malvern, Llandovery, Rydal and Hartpury B’s. This saw them then draw the formidable Kirkham Grammar. However, by now the boys had begun to play some good sevens and won the game 21-14. The semi final saw us pitted against arch rival Millfield. Although the scores were locked at half time Millfield finished on top before going on to win the title 33-19.
Meanwhile the U14's won their first two matches in their West of England Sevens, but lost to Taunton School which put them in the 2nd tier finals. A win against Blundells and a lose against Exeter College put them in a final 5th position.
Well done to all who took part.
