Congratulations to Sixth Form student Emily Nelmes who came second in the Ball Cup, the national rowing championship for small boat clubs.
The event was held on Dorney Lake, the venue of the 2012 Olympic rowing regatta, and Emily attended as part of the Clifton College Boat Club.
The other members of the Clifton College Boat Club also participated in the championship. Poppy Watts and Louis Powell, racing in their respective single sculls event, started strongly in their heats and finished a commendable 4th. The 1st four of Alex Benfield, John Cappuro, Bradley Fletcher, Alastair Scott coxed by Lily Mustin also showed considerable speed as they came down the course, but as the race developed they tired and finished 5th in their final.
The race and achievement of the day went to Emily who, having put considerable extra time in to her training this year, saw it all pay off. She comfortably won her heat, and then repeated a strong race in the final to come second, only one length off the eventual winner.
It was a brilliant day for the club. Well done to all who raced!
