Clifton College Sixth Form student Louie Shaw has been selected for the Under 19 England Young Lions tour of India in January and February 2017.
Louie leaves for India this week on a five-week tour that involves test matches and one day matches against their Indian Under 19 counterparts. His selection is a fantastic achievement, particularly as he is a year younger than most of the squad currently. Louie said: “Being selected was a massive shock! I really wasn’t expecting it and it still hasn’t sunk in. I expect the matches are going to be tough as cricket is so big in India. What I’m looking forward to the most is the first game at the Wankhede test match stadium in Mumbai and using the top class facilities. The whole experience is just a really exciting prospect to be honest!”
Louie is captain of the 1st XI at the College, plays club cricket for Bristol Cricket Club and is a member of the Somerset County Cricket Club Academy. He has represented Somerset at all age group levels and has also played for the 2nd XI. He is a top order batsman and left arm spin bowler but has been primarily selected on this tour as a bowler.
“In the near future, hopefully this summer, I can try and get a run in the 2nd team at Somerset and if I can back it up with a consistent run of performances who knows what could happen for me. I try not to look too far ahead as it's a bit daunting as there is so many different possibilities but I'll keep doing what I can and see where things take me,” he added.
