Three Sixth Form students won the South West Schools Climbing Competition, taking home the overall trophy and securing second, fourth and sixth place in the individual rankings.
Charlie Condell, Oliver Goldsack and Jona Schmidt demonstrated great determination and sportsmanship in the event. All three students have been part of the climbing team for the past 4-5 years and this result is testament to the hard work and enthusiasm they have put into training, particularly over the last year. They went against some stiff competition from young climbers in Bristol, as standards are extremely high.
The format for this competition was representative of the one used in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and was split into three parts. The event started with a bouldering competition where the participants had to attempt 20 Blocs and were scored on the height they were able to climb. The competition continued with sport climbing and concluded with a speed climbing round where competitors had to scale the wall as quickly as possible.
The team will be attending the UK Independent School's Climbing Competition in Reading on 4th March so we wish them the best of luck and hope their great form will stand them in good stead at national level!
