Congratulations to Old Cliftonian and Director of Music at St John's College Cambridge, Andrew Nethsingha on winning the 2017 BBC Music Magazine Choral Award for his album Deo.
The recording is a collection of sacred works written by British composer Jonathan Harvey, sung by St John’s College Choir and conducted by Andrew Nethsingha. Two of the works - The Annunciation and The Royal Banners - were written especially for the choir. The recording also features organ works Toccata for organ and tape and Laus Deo, as well as the popular anthems Come, Holy Ghost and I Love the Lord.
This achievement comes only six months after Andrew was appointed University Organist at Cambridge, becoming the third Old Cliftonian to hold this position out of the past five appointments.
Clifton’s Director of Music Daniel Robson said: 'I am delighted for Andrew and the Choir of St John's - this award is richly deserved recognition of the outstanding quality of music they regularly produce. The new St John's label under which this disc was released is clearly a great success and I look forward to hearing the next album Subito featuring Old Cliftonians Julia Hwang (violin) and Charles Matthews (piano).'
