Pupils shine in Guys and Dolls production

Throughout a whole week in November, pupils have been blowing away audiences at The Redgrave Theatre in Guys and Dolls, this year’s musical theatre production from Drama at Clifton.

A cross-departmental production in every way, Guys and Dolls brought together The Redgrave Theatre, Drama, Dance and Music at Clifton with a cast made up of Year 10 to Year 13 pupils and a backstage team which included pupils running the lighting board, props table and other aspects of the show.

Guys and Dolls is a musical fable of Broadway telling the story of Nathan Detroit who desperately needs $1,000 to finance his illegal crap game. With songs such as 'Luck Be A Lady', 'If I Were A Bell', 'A Bushel and a Peck' and, of course, the favourite 'Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat' the show was packed full of hits for everyone to enjoy.

Karen Pickles, Head of Drama at Clifton College, said: “The cast, crew and orchestra were amazing and I continue to be astounded at their energy, enthusiasm and commitment.  I am humbled to have worked with them all.”

In the past the pupils have been involved in productions such as Les Miserables, Miss Saigon and The Phantom of the Opera as well as Cabaret and Chicago, all of which have been very favourably received.

Playing the lead role Sarah, pupil Georgie Dixon said: "Through my time at Clifton I have been in over 15 productions, whether that be Shakespeare, House Plays or Musicals, but I have loved every one! To be a part of Guys and Dolls, sadly my last ever musical at Clifton, makes me extremely proud and I couldn't have wished for a better team to do it with."

"It is an absolutely brilliant musical with some fantastic characters and music to contribute to a truly uplifting story. I would like to thank Mrs Pickles for allowing me to be a part of such a fantastic cast who all contributed to creating some amazing memories with some great people", she added.
