Former Cliftonian and Captain of the 1st XI in 2014, Tom Smith, has been picked to replace the injured Kumar Sangakkara for the Emirates Airline T20 competition in Dubai this Friday.
The left-handed 38-year-old Sri Lankan batsman and wicketkeeper, who is second only to Sachin Tendulkar in terms of international runs scored, has injured his ankle and needs to be rested prior to the start of the season with Surrey.
Tom Smith, who now plays cricket with the MCC Young Cricketers, scored a T20 century in 29 balls while playing against Kent in the Second XI T20 competition last summer.
Cricket professional, Jim Williams, said; ‘This is a huge opportunity for Tom to play in such a high profile fixture. He is a very talented cricketer.’
