Pupils celebrate GCSE success at Clifton College - 25 August 2016

Clifton College pupils congregated on The Close this morning to collect their GCSE results, as six pupils were awarded straight A* grades amongst a year group that has achieved one of the best ever sets of results for the College.

In total, 25% of pupils achieved all A* or A grades, and there were plenty of smiling faces amongst the crowd as pupils finally found out the results of their hard work.

Overall, 89% of grades were A* to B and 69% were A* or A grades. Departmentally, this year saw the best results ever for Economics, Physical Education and English Literature with 92, 91 and 74% A* or A respectively. In Biology, 100% of pupils achieved A* to B, with 89% A* to A for the fourth year running.

Remarking on the GCSE results achieved by the pupils, Head of College Dr Tim Greene said: ‘The achievements and wide ranging ambitions of our pupils at GCSE level is testament to the hard work and dedication they’ve shown through what is at times a stressful period.

‘We wish everyone the very best for their next step, and look forward to welcoming many pupils back after the summer break to study for their A Levels here at Clifton College.’

Clifton College’s millennium babies

This is the first set of GCSE results handed out to the millennium babies, who have grown up in the 21st century and turn 16 this year. We asked some of our pupils what their plans are for the future to find out what’s next for this generation.

Matt Coleclough (above, top left) achieved 12 A* grades at GCSE. He has been part of Clifton College since the Preparatory School, and is a prominent member of the Maths Society and Creative Writing Club. He is staying at Clifton College for his A Levels, and looks forward to continuing his education within mathematics, hopefully at Oxbridge.

Alex Holley (below) achieved nine A* grades and two A grades. She is a prominent member of Clifton College’s swimming and netball teams, as well as singing in the school’s soul band. She is studying A Levels at Clifton College and is considering a career in medicine.

Hope Browne (bottom left above, centre) is another Clifton College pupil to be awarded an entire spread of A* grades. ‘It’s what I hoped for, but never expected, so I’m surprised and very happy!’ she commented. Also studying A Levels at the College, she hopes to further her love of language at higher education and beyond, studying French and Spanish among her choices and hoping to use language in work and study in the future.
