Congratulations to former Cliftonian Lily Owsley who was part of the women’s hockey team that won their first-round match in Rio this weekend.
We are delighted that former pupil Lily has been selected for the team and excited to see how Team GB perform in the coming weeks.
Lily scored the first goal of the game against Australia on Saturday and, although Australia equalised, Lily’s teammate Alex Danson then ensured a win for Great Britain with a goal in the third quarter.
Speaking to the BBC after the match, Lily said: "As far as Saturday nights go, making my Olympic debut and scoring probably tops a Saturday night as a 21-year-old, so I am over the moon!"
The team’s next group stage match takes place on Monday evening (8 August) with further first-round matches on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
We would like to wish Lily and Team GB the very best of luck at Rio 2016!
