Yesterday afternoon the first ball of the new cricket pre-season was bowled, as Clifton College's first XI Cricket boys played the first XI from Oxford University on The Close.
In to bat first, with storm clouds looming, Oxford started strongly holding out after 20 overs to score 144 overall. Rain delayed the play at intervals throughout the match, and Clifton College came in to bat with the light fading in the evening.
An impressive performance by all involved meant that the game went down to the wire. Pinned in by a strong bowling and fielding display from Oxford University, Clifton nonetheless managed to put impressive numbers on the board given the conditions and light. After 20 overs, Clifton were sadly still 19 runs behind.
Despite the loss, it was a great first game for the team who will next be playing Marlborough. Well done to everyone who put a lot of effort in given the conditions.
