Back in January 2015, Nick Haigh, Bristol’s Volunteer Coordinator for the charity Kid’s Company, came to the Prep School to talk about a new scheme Colour a Child's Life. Volunteers help to transform the homes of some of our most disadvantaged families, who often live without basic necessities, such as clean bedding, crockery and simple furniture.
A group of volunteers, Nick explained, undertake a DIY SOS-style make over. The results are direct and immediate, giving children a clean, bright, positive place to live. The family is then helped with appropriate maintenance.
In May, a group of parents and children, led by Mansfield's Housemistress Shannon Schrijver, redecorated and carpeted a flat in Bristol.
