Visit by John Bracewell

The Prep School were delighted to welcome John Bracewell to talk on Saturday, he spoke to the boys of Tait’s and Wollaston’s about his life in cricket and about having a career in sport and the dedication and commitment needed. John played 41 Test matches for New Zealand between 1979 and 1990, as well as 53 One Day Internationals. Following his playing career he was appointed Gloucestershire coach in 1998 and led the club to unprecedented success, winning five one-day trophies in two seasons (1999 and 2000). During his time with Gloucestershire one of the many cricketers he coached was Mr James Averis, Housemaster of Wollaston’s.

He left to become New Zealand coach in 2003 then later re-joined Gloucestershire in 2009 as Director of Cricket.

All the boys sat captivated by the talk and then had a lot of questions for Mr Bracewell,
including what Mr Averis was like to coach!
