Dr Chris Stevens appointed as new Executive Head of Clifton College and CCEG
Clifton College is pleased to announce, following an extensive and wide-ranging recruitment process, the appointment of Dr Chris Stevens as Executive Head of Clifton College and Clifton College Education Group with effect from 1st September 2026.
Chris will join the College following ten years as Headmaster at Bradfield College. He has an impressive career in education since graduating in 1989 with an MA in Modern Languages from Cambridge University, and subsequently completing a doctorate in Italian at Oxford University. His career includes time as a Housemaster at Uppingham School and also previously as Second Master at Marlborough College.
Nick Tolchard, President of Clifton College and Chair of Council said: “We are excited to appoint an outstanding individual who knows the sector well and has the experience, energy and vision to work closely with Council and our executive team leading the Clifton College Education Group through the next ambitious phase of its development.”
Dr Chris Stevens said: “I am thrilled to be appointed Executive Head of the Clifton College Education Group. Having admired Clifton for many years, it has been a pleasure getting to know the group through the appointment process. The great history of the schools, the beauty of their location, and above all the warmth of their people make for a truly exciting opportunity. I very much look forward to joining the Clifton community in 2026 and to working alongside the Council and staff to guide the group through its next phase of development.”
Chris is motivated by the opportunity at Clifton to lead and influence exceptional teachers in an inspirational setting. Not only a dedicated educationalist, Chris has been tirelessly involved in community work as well as holding other roles as a School Director and Governor. He is a board member of peer group bodies including the IB Schools and Colleges Association Steering Group, and the Learning Skills Trust, and has been Chair of the Rugby Group of leading independent schools and the HMC Education Committee.
The College will work closely with Chris through the coming academic year as he prepares to formally take up his role in September 2026.
