Secure a Seat
We are offering a great opportunity to sponsor one of our seats in the theatre. Select the seat(s) you would like to sponsor from £300 - £500.
A plaque will be added to the seat for a minimum of 3 years.

We want to run community programmes more effectively, host school groups with confidence, and ensure the theatre remains a vibrant, accessible cultural space for all.
Our aim is to enhance the audience experience through small but meaningful improvements. From better ventilation and refreshed stage equipment to more flexible front-of-house space.
We must act now to ensure the theatre remains fit for purpose and accessible to everyone.

Youth Theatre
The youth theatre is a significant step for us to reaffirm our commitment to being a space for our community. This venue has long been a great working and learning environment, and we are delighted to open our doors to our youngest creative minds so they can ignite a lifelong passion for the performing arts.

We asked a former scholar how their scholarship made a difference to life after Clifton:
Being a drama scholar has been instrumental in helping me progress to the next stage of my development. Throughout my drama school audition process, the department provided consistent and personalised support that allowed me to fully focus on my training and preparation. I had weekly one-to-one sessions with staff who helped me select appropriate monologues, refine my technique, and prepare mentally and physically for the demands of professional training. They supported me through both the highs and lows of the audition journey, offering honest feedback, encouragement, and reassurance when it mattered most. The rigorous yet nurturing training environment helped me develop resilience, focus, and confidence in my abilities. When I was offered a place, the level of care and commitment from the department made the achievement even more meaningful, and I felt fully prepared to move forward into the next stage of my training.

History
The Redgrave Theatre was built in 1966 as the first purpose built school theatre in the country. It was initially for the sole use of pupils at Clifton College, but soon opened its doors to the local community to enjoy touring productions.
The theatre is named after former pupil, Sir Michael Redgrave, who officially opened the theatre 60 years ago. At the time it was known as the Clifton College theatre, but after his death in 1985 it was renamed in his honour.
The famous actor made his debut in an Alfred Hitchcock film and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
Commercial
The Redgrave Theatre is a small yet unique venue that hosts a variety of productions and events, both commercially and internally.
The theatre can seat 318 audience members at any given time, along with a small foyer area which includes a bar and box office. The theatre has grown in popularity since it opened back in 1966. Today, the theatre continues to bring the top talent and highest rated shows to its door, allowing audiences to continually be entertained.
Community
The Redgrave Theatre regularly hosts local community led performances. From local school productions to community theatre groups, we pride ourselves in ensuring this facility can be accessed by all of our community.
School Productions
At Clifton College, we recognise the performing arts as a powerful way to build confidence, creativity, and self-expression. Whether performing on stage, composing in the music studio, or working behind the scenes, pupils are encouraged to develop their talents, push creative boundaries, and experience the fulfilment that comes with artistic performance.
Famous alumni
We are incredibly proud of the number of pupils who have treaded the boards of the Redgrave Theatre and then continued on to a successful career in Performing Arts.
Alumni include: John Madden, Roland Orzabal, Simon Russell-Beale, John Cleese, Emma Johnsey-Smith, Roger Michell, Will and James Hanson.
This 60th year we celebrate those composers, actors, songwriter, comedians, podcasters, directors, screenwriters, journalists and broadcasters, across stage, television and film screen with regional, national and international success.
The next generation of performers
Clifton College and the Redgrave Theatre are invested in supporting young people have the opportunity to discover the theatre and develop their skills in this creative industry.
Clifton College Bursary Fund supports Performing Arts scholars to attend the school and receive the best education whilst developing their creative skills for the future.
The Redgrave Youth Theatre offers young people an exciting opportunity to train alongside working theatre professionals in a vibrant, fully operational venue at the heart of Clifton.
